Such a great line up! Also, a perfect summary of the middle school years "it isn't as fun LOOKING" that totally sums it up, right?!?! The learning isn't as visually exciting as those elementary years with all the fun resources, but the learning and discussions are fantastic. I have struggled to EVER implement a basket consistently. We just have a hard time fitting it in the day with everyone's different independent things going on. I AM going to try again this year and see if we can make it stick.

Can you share thoughts on read aloud books when done?

We did the middle school vocabulary cards last year with my then 5th and 8th graders so you may want to look at those instead. It took us almost all year to get through them doing a couple each time we did them. Then I started redoing the ones they didn’t already know.

Are you going to do an updated car school video. Since you mentioned that you are out of the house at 3 days a week.

I’ve never commented before but wanted to say you have helped me tremendously with my approach to homeschool and just getting through it with my girls. They are in a private school this year, it’s their first year not being homeschooled and of course all my fav homeschool content creators are popping up and I’m feeling all the feels. I just wanted to say oh my goodness, I can’t believe you’re doing a 7th grade curriculum review!! I followed from the start, these kids grow up too fast. It just flies by 🥲 Great job as always!!

I am considering this or the first one with my special needs teen who is significantly delayed on a very young level. Do you have to do the books in order or can you jump around? And can the more series be done without doing the original one?

We love Mary’s book clubs!!! I have a kiddo in the 8-10 and 11-13 book clubs. We are also using the Traveling States unit study 😊

What are the boxes with the countries?

I’d say 30-40 for spots would be pretty accurate. We have played quite a bit. But it’s dependent on who you are playing with. It goes quicker on BGA (board game arena) since you aren’t manually rolling the dice.

Random question. We are redecorating our school wall in the dining room and the maps I currently have are just too big, but it is killing me because I love them! Where did you purchase the map that is behind you?

LOVE all this. I guessed you might be switching to Denison, it is on my radar for my daughter in a year or so. We started using Fix It Grammar for my older 2 a few years ago, and they seem to enjoy it and will continue this year. I am really excited to hear more Lit Studies are coming! We enjoyed the Christmas Carol study so much. I am still deciding on what to do for us. The middle school years are so hard for allllll the reasons you mentioned. The connection is harder and has to be more intentional. The feeling of needing to do more...but having so many more activities outside the home has become a really hard balance here. We will have activities 7 days per week this fall😅 yikes! This year we were going to do American History together, but my middle wants to do History of Science, so we are going to split and have everyone do their own thing for history. My brain sort of feels like a whirlpool with all the decisions swirling around with last minute changes in plans for topics of study. My daughter is also doing Mary's 11to13 class. She is so excited for the book choices, especially Last Mapmaker. She read it twice last school year and can't wait to read it again😂

I’m down to my last child being homeschooled, so it’s a very strange feeling being just us two in the house all day. He’s in 6th grade, and I, too feel the academic push as we enter middle school. I don’t know why I stress myself out, having graduated two and another this year. But I do! I have to keep reminding myself that relationship is foremost; everything else is gravy. Love your videos and can’t wait to hear a review on Dennison. I’m a skeptic because everyone raves about it. Hope your school year gets off to a great start!

I have a huge 8th grader this fall. I have a similar goal to try and keep connection and be more involved when I can be. We're trying Sonlight for the first time using the history of science J. We'll be using math u see algebra 1 and subbing out Sonlight grammar and spelling for fix it grammar and spelling you see but using Sonlight for our writing projects. My first grader will be doing math with confidence and AAR2 along with schoolhouse discovery unit studies. Pre-K will be doing gather round letters and numbers

This year, I have a 5th grader, a 1st grader, and a preschooler. I was crazy enough to pick Abeka for my oldest, Book Shark for my middle, and I'm doing The Good and the Beautiful for the little one. Abeka has been very rigorous, and of course, I had to pick a heavy literature-based program for my daughter that doesn't like to sit still. I guess I like to challenge myself. I got a ton of games but with these curricula it's virtually impossible to have time to play them so I'm low key regretting my choices. 😭
